Digital Trading: Lenovo, CITAD Trains 100 Women on Digital Skills

No fewer than 100 young female entrepreneurs were on Wednesday, equiped with basic digital skills and knowledge in Kano with the view to enhance and modernize their businesses.

The training; Digital Creativity and Innovation for Young Women (DICI-YOW) is a women-focused incubatorship by Centre for Information Technology with support from Lenovo Foundation.

The Technical Officer, CITAD, Kamaludeen Umar, stated that the 1year training program for young girls on Digital Skills is designed to empower them and develop their own businesses.

“It is a program that introduces them to basic and advanced knowledge on computer usage, business incubation and idea development designed to run for a year”.

According to him, technology or IT is a most considering the world has advanced beyond the stage of doing things manually which makes the technology driven businesses more faster and successful.

“When you look at businesses now, you will notice they move faster when there is Technology attached to it.

“We have lots of young girls striving to succeed in different areas of small businesses that is why we deemed it necessary to organize this training so that they can improve on what they do”, Umar added.

A participant, Maryam Musa Alhassan expressed delight over the opportunity describing it as “timely” cognisance of present day advancement.

“We have learnt a lot on how to use the computer and I assure you, this, will change a lot about not just our businesses but our lives in general”.

Also, Fatima Musa, another participant and beneficiary of the training urge other women to embrace the IT knowledge which she said will empower and provide them with jobs and source of income.

The initiative also aim to create jobs for women and girls, produce 80 digital entrepreneurs (40 per year) and also, create 160 new digital jobs for girls (80 per year) etc, and consists of four phases which will last for 10 months.
